 Nice sucker hole
Chris enjoys a moment of visibility above the Devil’s Stairs
in the South Fork of Teton Canyon.

Went couloir hunting in Teton Canyon with my friend Chris yesterday. Unfortunately the clouds obscured our objective, but we had some fun dust on crust skiing non-the-less. As we toured above Devil’s Stairs, a nice sucker hole came though and lifted our spirits, thinking we would get our prize. But it was short lived and if anyone has skied at Targhee before, they know the visibility can get pretty bad on the west side of the Tetons.

 A couloir through the clouds

Anyway, it was nice to get out with Chris and tour in some new terrain. Unlike the constant barrage of airplanes in the ski on the Jackson side of the range, I only heard one plane the whole day. A small point release grew in size quickly as we booted up a short chute down low, but I think the snowpack is probably very different higher in the mountains. With the weather window were getting this weekend it would be nice to have some good conditions. Be on your peak early though…cuz it’s going to get moving once the snow starts heating up. Especially on Sunday!
