Big thanks to Greg Hill and Aaron Chance for showing the TetonAT crew around Rogers Pass for a few days. With bluebird skies and new snow, we had to play it safe in regards to avalanches a little, but we were still able to enjoy the great ski touring the pass has to offer.
After a day of setting off many avalanches on McGill Shoulder with Aaron, we hooked up at the top of the pass for a tour in the general direction of 8812 Bowl. Our plans were slightly changed when we saw a fresh avalanche in the distance (see previous post), but we stayed focused and were still able to climb below Peak 8812 and ski the bowl. Here are some images from the tour. The next day we toured up the Illecillewaet Glacier and skied Youngs Peak. A classic tour for the area. More on that tomorrow.

Thanks Lynne. We didn’t think avy conditions were quite stable enough for Forever Young, but I did get a photo of it to share with TetonAT visitors.

nice pics steve, yes rogers pass is really something huh. i remember driving over it with gvd years ago and thinking “whoa!, teton pass on steroids! sick!”

That slide looks so fresh I have to ask, did your group trigger it? Is that the bowl that faces Video Peak?
Ummm…I think it’s a ridge or two over from Video Peak. We did not trigger this slide…did you read the post?
When I commented yesterday, I had only looked at the photos from the 8812 posting. The photos showed you skiing up Connaught Crk to below Ursa Minor where you dug a pit and then you are traversing a bed surface so I wasn’t sure what had happened. I’ve since read the other post and got your story and know right where that occured. I hit the same areas you did about two weeks ago before the snow arrived. That slide took out the skin track I used!
