Skier’s raise the American Flag on the 4th of July
on the summit of Static Peak in Grand Teton National Park.
I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July Weekend! Last year, I skied Buck Mountain on the fourth, but this year…there is much more suffering in store. Battling muddy/wet trails, heavy packs, long approaches, hoards of mosquitoes, unconsolidated/patchy snow, post holing, sun cups, blazing heat, thunder and lightning AND rain…I hope to carve turns in one of Wyoming’s most beautiful mountain ranges this weekend. Surprisingly, I found an excited and more than competent partner for the adventure, which starts out with a 3am departure from Jackson on Saturday morning. Just not wanting to let go of the skiing, we’re hoping to get lucky and have one last shebang before summer really kicks in. I will no doubt be buried with work for at least the next two months. Thank you…vacationland!!!!
On another note, big shout out to the United States Postal Service (even though I also want to rip their head off…because not having home mail delivery really bites sometimes) and Grand Teton National Park. Last week the new GTNP 98¢ international postage stamp was unveiled, the first stamp to specifically commemorate the park. Being a huge lover of the park, this kinda stuff gets me all warm and fuzzy. So all you TetonAT visitors who live overseas, take a second to enjoy what’s stuck to the envelope on your next letter from the states…please.
