Well, I thought running and climbing Gannett Peak in a day was tough, but Andrew Skurka definitely has me beat. Skurka is most known for his Great Western Loop and Sea to Sea Route, two backpacking epics which combined total nearly 15,000 miles traveled by foot. Yes…15 THOUSAND miles!
Skurka’s Great Western Loop linked together 5 long distance hikes, included 12 National Parks, and over 75 wilderness area’s, and was able to complete the journey in 208 days. That’s an average of 33 miles a day…for a total of 6,875 miles of what must have been an incredible adventure. Andrew’s Sea to Sea Route included 1,400 miles of snowshoeing while connecting trails between Quebec and Washington state, and totaled 778 miles in all. Luckly for Skurka, he seems to have his system dialed in and traveled with a pack weighing only 6.5-8 lbs (sans food, water, fuel) for most of his adventures.
Come support and listen to Andrew explain how he connects with the natural world that he is also trying to protect. Thursday, Sept 10th, 7pm at Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Jackson. 5$ get’s you 15,000 miles of adventure and a ticket to the raffle.
