This time of year, it’s often hard to find ski partners. It drives me nuts sometimes, because to me, this is often the best time of year to ski some of the radder lines and the access to at least some mountains gets a little easier.
? Dude…4am is way to early for me. I need my beauty sleep.
? Sorry bro…heading to J-Tree to climb some rock.
? Nah man…I’m over skiing. Why does it keep snowing…it’s May already!!!
? Can’t do it…my feet get too hot in my boots this time of year.
? I hate walking in my ski boots…sorry dude!
? Hombre…gotta visit the in laws in Vermont. Call me next week.
? Amigo…riding my bike instead…sorry! (see video

Meh strong truth.
Did you do this yourself Steve? Thought the other 2 characters were funnier, more cliche.
guess that’s why they are in the movies.
hahahahhahahahahahhahahah you just saved my day! thx!
gilles…looks like you’ve been having some great days all on your own. congrats on the marmot gig!!!
I usually don’t have problems finding people to ski until July, but then I realize I’m the one that’s got some screws loose.
Last weekend while walking a popolar trail to reach my line, a jogger, looking at my skis, says, “I didn’t know there was still snow in May?”. I just grunt and point skyward, toward the upper Wasatch still 12 feet deep. The jogger then says, “your lift kind of sucks”. “Yeah”, I reply, “but at least the snow is covered in Nevada dust”. The jogger gives me a stupid look, and runs away.
I WISH I could go skiing with you Romeo, but alas 2009-10 is the year of chronic injury.
Looking for a ski partner myself Thursday/Friday. Might just poke around in Garnet Thursday if this bunk weather does blow through tonight. Have mud boots. Will travel. Ring me at the Moose VC today.
Dave…headed a bit East the next few…so maybe next time. Been working across the river…opening day this weekend.
B…though about calling you…thanks for the heads up. Heal well.
Hillarious and perfectly typical!! Climbing could be replaced for biking also in the dialogue. However, I still think the characters should blast each other with Dragonball Z type weapons at the end for the full effect.
What’s almost worse than skiers bailing on great spring skiing is lifts that close on their pre-ordained date when the snow is still fluffy and huge. Here in La Grave we’ve probably gotten 2 meters at altitude since the lift closed and the precip is not stopping.
My problem is always finding partners that want to start at midnight and tour all night.
10-4. Be sure to take Hanta virus precautions.
That it too real – I have that same converstaion twice a year, once in October when my friends are skiing machine snow and skipping off rocks while I’m riding my bike, and once again in May when the same friends are sliding bikes through the mud or driving hours to the desert.
for sure ptor…it’s almost like the changing of the guard this time of year. i live in a condo, and often my bearded, widespread panic loving Chattanooga neighbors are just coming back from the bar as i’m toting a quad latte and heading out to go skiing. different stokes i guess!!!
dave…not that far east…or am i missing something???
Never ceases to amaze me- people will ski horrible snow in October and November, but can’t be bothered in great conditions in April and May. I love the corn- I’m a cornasseur. Also, I’d love one of your steezy and fresh, super cool Teton AT visors- how can I get one Steve?
dave…$20…shipped.
contact me…or just use paypal link on this post…

Just place the belly button over the downhill GS race ski and let it rip
Good stuff. It never ceases to amaze me how many people in a supposed ski town will bitch and moan every time it snows in april and May. All things considered they’re the best 2 months of skiing in much of the west.
I wait all winter for this time of year. We’re skiing some gnarly aspects with GREAT conditions here in Colorado. Fortunately most of my partners are of the same mindset.
Steve, Do you go solo much? When solo, do you bring a beacon? I was wondering about that when soloing up in AK last month.
jim…when i go solo i wear a transceiver…mainly to help in SAR in case i am buried. i guess also in case i run into anyone else in trouble out there.
Steve- thoughts on snow stability and going solo right now? I just moved back to the area and am not in tune with the snowpack. I was thinking about heading up to Wimpy’s early Saturday, and am trying to decide if I want to go alone.
welcome back van! should be good to go…the tetons didn’t receive much snow out of this last front.
LMAO – love this, the suit guy has that standard excuse for ALL lame-O’s for whatever they do: sledge tows, muddy trail rip ups, ect. ; “I Don’t care… I want to….” – Just Plains SELFISHNESS!!
Oh well, I’m headed OUT to………
Priceless! I’ve been the biker a few times this season so far, though today I skied corn and rode singletrack.
