With all the new snow over the past week here in Jackson and sunny skies over the past few days, it’s been temping to try to ski some bigger lines. But, it seems like there are still some pesky [...]

D5 Albright Slide?
by February 24th, 2011So, last week I went on a ski tour to ski Son of Apocalypse Couloir on Prospector’s Mountain. Someone had skied it the day before (meaning we had sloppy seconds…something I hate), but they dropped in not quite from the top, so my partner and I were still able to get some untracked turns in [...]

by February 23rd, 2011Fourth Time Is A Charm
by February 21st, 2011Randosteve negotiates the wave entrance in the Sneaker Couloir. Click all photos for larger image. Sometimes I get obsessed with a ski line, especially one that I haven’t skied before. For the past few weeks, it’s been a line called Sneaker Couloir, which has taken me four tries to ski. The first try, and about [...]
Remembering Wray Landon Today
by February 21st, 2011Last year on this day, our friend Wray Landon died in an avalanche while skiing the South Teton in Grand Teton National Park. (Here is the original report posted on TetonAT.) I have mourned the loss of Wray a lot over the past year and I really miss him. I know people are out there [...]
2.19.2011 Bighorn Sheep Sighting
by February 20th, 2011Had a cool bighorn sheep sighting yesterday. Normally the sheep don’t run right towards you, but I think another party down canyon might have spooked them towards us.

by February 16th, 2011Come by Skinny Skis this Thursday for the Teton Pass Ambassador Night from 5-8pm. Some of the issues being discussed will be avalanche safety, parking, hitch-hiking and of course, the controversial sign on top of Glory Bowl. The subject of the new (and sometimes missing) sign on top of Glory Bowl popped up on Facebook [...]

by February 11th, 2011Skier’s on North Couloir of Albright. Click all photos for larger image. After a windy day on 10,696, the weather broke for a bit on Sunday and I was on my own. I got a slow start out of the condo, but was on the trail a little before 9am, following a skin track up [...]
Roland Fleck…Hero, Rebel or ????
by February 9th, 2011I couldn’t help but shake my head in amazement and roll my eyes in bewilderment as I read yesterday’s article in the Jackson Hole News and Guide, relating to the incident with Roland Flack on Saturday at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. I was even more blown away when I saw the words handcuffs, arrested [...]
Windy Peak 10,696
by February 9th, 2011Over the weekend, I skied Peak 10,696 in Grand Teton National Park with Randokitty. The weather was pretty burly, with wind gusts close to 70mph that day. The skiing was halfway decent, when you could see, and Kitty got blasted by a huge wind gust on her descent.
