Very nice.
One would think that as a public service, & in their self interest, publicly funded organizations like Search & Rescue, Climbing Rangers, WYDOT, etc, would have Free Avi Classes to better educate those headed into the mountains. Free classes on Avalanche Awareness might save lives and prevent rescues at public expense (an expense which is higher than the cost of hosting a class).
Just a thought.
i think our local SAR does some training with high school age kids.
JH has a lot of resources for avalanche education, with Jackson Hole Mountain Guides, Exum Mountain Guides and the American Avalanche Institute all based in the area. I think free courses by TCSAR wouldn’t be accepted well within the community. Besides, the guides and instructors of JHMG, Exum and AAI are world class. We also have some beacon training parks in the area. They seem to change every year and I will try to put together an update about this year’s zones when they are up and running.
Thanks for the PSA Steve. See you at avy awareness night!
welcome back, man!
btw, be sure to RSVP to one of the emails at the bottom if you are interested in attending this.
Too bad this seminar isn’t also offered on Saturday so we weekend warriors might have an opportunity to attend!
