My 2 cents:

If I understand how the Google Spiders operate, a non-updated site’s content, although accessible to those who know of it (and head directly to tetonAT.com), will in time drop in priority based upon Google’s algorithms. Eventually, an untended site’s page/content ranking would drop so low that the content would essentially be hard to find, even for those looking. This strikes me as a poor way to pay tribute to the memory of Steve.

If I might, I suggest the voluminous contents of this site be condensed, along with pictures, into a more permanent record. A book, perhaps entitled TetonAT: Randosteve’s Teton Descents? When I think about honoring Steve’s legacy, this is what comes to my mind. (It’s entirely possible I’m wrong about this, and that Googling ’25 Short’ will always bring up tetonAT as the first offering, but it’s worth checking into.)

As a longtime, occasional reader of this site myself, I don’t necessarily envision a visor purchase when I think about remembering Steve. A resource book available on the shelf, filled with his life, words, and photos? That’s a keeper.

After living in Jackson for a few years, I couldn’t even begin to count the number of times I have accessed this site for information regarding the Tetons/Winds. Anything that the community can do keep this site up and running is vital. Steve sounds like he touched many and I am fortunate enough to have run into him during an avalanche awareness evening. May he inspire many in the years to come.

If possible keep the content available. This content is priceless and would be a huge loss if gone for good. Even if the merchandise sales don’t happen I would donate to a PayPal account to fund it. Thanks for the update.

Please allow me to make a suggestion:
If you were to offer stickers and visors for sale, (even pre-order if neccesary) you could put the proceeds towards keeping the site online, even if not active in the sense of updates and comments. Steves photos of the special places in the Tetons are just too great to let go, and never be available again to ski mountaineers, both active and armchair.

As a reader since day one, I would be happy to purchase a visor to bring with me on my adventures if it meant that it would allow the site to remain online for visits by old and new readers alike.

One side note, I do support the desicion to close the comments permanently. Without moderation the site will soon be overrun by spam bots and such.

thanks for letting us enojy the site for however long you can, we all appreciate Steves photos and trip reports.

Steve has inspired so many and keeping the information up

I have live to ski stickers on my autos and would like to continue as long
as I can.

Steve felt glory – and expressed it always, right here. I agree with the comments above. Teton AT is a place one can go anytime and feel uplifted and feel alive.
Missing it will hurt – what a gentleman.

Thanks for the update. Please keep the information available. There is a lot of good information on this site for anyone doing Ski Mountaineering or visiting the Tetons. I still find myself checking this site on a frequent basis. Also please consider selling the live to ski items. I always wanted a visor, just kept missing out on getting one. I love my stickers, one is on my car the other on my ski pole. Keeping the stickers available will help keep the memory of Steve alive as will the other live to ski items.

As a parent myself, I know one of my greatest fears is outliving any of my children. I cannot imagine how this loss has affected you. Take care and thanks for the update.

Thanks guys. I still use the site as a referance. I think steve would have liked that. Thanks for all youve done over the last weeks and we will keep skiing the backcountry for steve and chris.
