Cool footage, looks like fun!
Nice, Steve! Isn’t that also called the Southwest Couloir? I’ve never heard it called Irene’s before… I’d like to ski it but descending it in the summer from Irene’s Arete is no fun.
Well…I think both Irene’s AND Southwest Couloir are fitting. Don’t you?
I do… in fact I like the name Irene’s better. Just curious.
Same stupid question as I already asked couple of months ago, but what are the skis you are on for this descent? Just curious of the width as matter of fact.
Thanks & happy skiing!
I’m using 180cm Black Diamond Verdicts. I find anytime the snow gets a bit soft…I really jones for a fatter ski like the Verdict…a opposed to the Kilowatt.
your repeated liberties with coulior names is more than disconcerting. who do you think you are man?
feel free to name something if you tag it first, but proactively changing an existing name is douchebaggery at its finest…or worst as it were.
Whatever Gringo.
I’ve heard it called Irene’s by numerous skiers…maybe not as many climbers. Maybe it’s the “skier’s name”. Honestly, most skiers I talk to are like…”what’s that thing”. Personally I think Irene’s Couloir makes more sense than Southwest Couloir anyway, since there are numerous couloirs on the south side of Disappointment Peak. Kind of like Bubble Fun is to North Couloir Left…right?
Okay, okay…you’re right…Irene’s Descent Couloir would have been better. Come on Gringo…get over it!
perhaps the skiers name has merit…but `Koch`s coulior` is just wrong.
Man…that one is in the book. Funny though…my friends and I sometimes refer to it as Shea’s Couloir…because of Steve Shea’s footage of skiing it in the movie Fall Line…which is also referred to in Tom Turiano’s, Teton Skiing.
