First Turns of the Season

first-turns-of-the-season
Randosteve gets his first turns of the 2009-10 ski season at Grand Targhee.

When it snows 12-18″ on Oct 1st at Grand Targhee…there’s no way I’m not going to get out the door and investigate.  Randokitty only had to mention the word ‘skiing’ once…and our trail running plans were quickly put on the back burner today, in order to see what all the hype was all about.  Now, skiing early season isn’t for everybody and it’s sometimes tough to stay optimist when you’re looking at bare ground on the drive into the mountains.  You also have to have thick skin, because undoubtedly, you’ll get strange looks and comments from others who think you’re crazy to risk your entire ski season…for a couple meager grassy powder turns.

None-the-less, the lure is to great to resist going out and going skiing for me.  Usually it’s always better than you think, and if you can control your stoke, it’s pretty harmless, meadow skipping on low angle runs with only a few hundred feet of vertical.  Sure felt good though and I was psyched that my Dynafit Titans felt so good after molding and fitting them a couple days ago and I’m glad I at least go one run on them before using them in Antarctica..  Nice boots to say the least.

Seems like only yesterday you posted how the end of the ski season causes seasonal depression for you Steve. Let it begin!

that is so true! this summer really seemed to fly by…especially with labor day being so late and all this year. be interesting to see how what the snow and weather does from now on. could go either way i guess.

I hear they’re calling for a big one. At least here in CO it was a cool wet summer.

We made turns in northwest montana yesterday, but not on as much new stuff.. Our ENDLESS WINTER continues, skiing every month, within 75 miles of home…
Good on ya for gettin after it…
WE are the ones who spread the stoke, and get fired up when darkness starts to descend early, in the fall.

You know that was a ‘slow skiing area’ right? did you send it from the top? I got in a few laps last thursday up there. looks like the current weather isnt helping too much.
