first-turns-of-the-season
Randosteve gets his first turns of the 2009-10 ski season at Grand Targhee.

When it snows 12-18″ on Oct 1st at Grand Targhee…there’s no way I’m not going to get out the door and investigate.  Randokitty only had to mention the word ‘skiing’ once…and our trail running plans were quickly put on the back burner today, in order to see what all the hype was all about.  Now, skiing early season isn’t for everybody and it’s sometimes tough to stay optimist when you’re looking at bare ground on the drive into the mountains.  You also have to have thick skin, because undoubtedly, you’ll get strange looks and comments from others who think you’re crazy to risk your entire ski season…for a couple meager grassy powder turns.

None-the-less, the lure is to great to resist going out and going skiing for me.  Usually it’s always better than you think, and if you can control your stoke, it’s pretty harmless, meadow skipping on low angle runs with only a few hundred feet of vertical.  Sure felt good though and I was psyched that my Dynafit Titans felt so good after molding and fitting them a couple days ago and I’m glad I at least go one run on them before using them in Antarctica..  Nice boots to say the least.
