I got out on Wimpy’s yesterday and with 2′ of fluffy snow blanketing the slope it was unbelievable . Broke trail from the Maverick cut-off the whole way with rando racer Scott Coldiron who is in town from Boulder/Spokane for the race at Targhee this weekend. Unfortunately now I’m resting for the race….and not skiing for a couple days. On Wimpy’s, the skiing was over my head at times and the trailhead markers are now all buried…a sure sign of a growing snowpack. The village will probably hit a 100′ base by this weekend. Man, what a season so far.
I did some skiing on Disappointment Peak in the Park last week and put together a video that I will post tomorrow. Here are a couple sample pics.
And here is an article from the JHNG about the Unskiabowl rescue. For the record, the last thing I wanted to be doing was testing my fire starting skills and non of us rescuers were huddled next to the fire…we were curled up in bivy sacks and/or moving around to try and stay warm.

X-Chris,X-Reed & X-Steve. SICK! The original X-Men in action. Good luck this weekend. Have fun Bro!
Just like the old days…
…except Chris telemarks now. 🙄
Man, I don’t see how you do it Steve. The patients you must have for these idoits…by my account of the story, this fool should be dead and Darwin should have prevailed…good on you though man, keep it up. Wow, midwest bootpackers standing on cornices w/o beacons or rescue gear = should be dead.
the gift and the curse of teton pass: it’s easy access to great backcountry terrain. but because it’s so easy you get a lot of unqualified people out there.
Good read and a great job by your team.
Thanks for the kind words everybody.
Going into the field that night was not an easy decision.
