TetonAT.com Videos: Teewinot Southwest Couloir

I called in sickter to work the other day and got out with some friends to ski the Southwest Couloir of Teewinot. I’ve been enjoying skiing in Glacier Gulch this year, and have skied the Southwest Couloir a number of times in the past, but it’s just so darn beautiful in the area that I […]

Teewinot Video Stokage

Last Friday, I got out with Reed Finlay to ski an obscure line on the southwest side of Teewinot Mountain that drops down into Glacier Gulch. I’m not really sure what to call this route, but we dubbed it the “Son of Southwest”, after Teewinot’s more prominent and more often skied Southwest Couloir, that lies […]

TetonAT Video: Okie’s Thorn Couloir

Here’s is a little video stoke (it’s a little slow and mind-numbing) from skiing Okie’s Thorn Couloir last week with Reed Finlay. It’s a pretty obscure line, but the couloir sits directly skier’s left of the Dike Couloir, a popular descent on Garnet Canyon/Glacier Gulch loop-tours. It also runs below a sharp pinnacle, called Okie’s […]

Icy North Face Static Peak

Got a little sketched-out skiing the North Face of Static Peak the other day, a first for me as it usually looks rocky and terrifying. Morning clouds and wind kept things firm on aspects that typically get sun at first light. I knew it would be icy, but went for it anyway. (It’s good training…right?) […]

Buck Mountain’s Buckshot Edit

A week ago today.

Buck Shot Slideshow

Got out yesterday with Reed Finlay to ski a fun line on Buck Mountain I hadn’t skied before called “Buck Shot”. It’s kind of the north east face of the mountain and consists of two big hourglass-like features and is a 2000′ shot right into Avalanche Canyon. The top was steep, but not too steep […]

Getting Further Away In Snowshoe Canyon

Paradise in Snowshoe Canyon. Click all photos for larger image. Sooo, I’ve been trying to plan and put together an overnight trip into Snowshoe Canyon all winter, but the overall conditions never really lined up. (At least on my days off.) Snowshoe Canyon lies just north of Moran Canyon and is one of the few […]

Success (Finally) in the Southwest Couloir

When you hear Teton skiers talk about skiing the Southwest Couloir, you most likely would think of the southwest couloirs on the Middle Teton or Mount Moran , which are well known (as far as ski descents go) here in the Teton Range. Early this season though, I somehow got the itch to explore the […]

The Dirty Sanchez, Point 11,226

I’m not totally sure what to make of the snowpack after a few days of warm weather followed by colder temps, but it sounds like a good combination to start to set things up a bit more. I think the higher elevations are probably still a bit touchy, but the lower elevation lines seem to […]

Thank You Saint John

Today on Mount Saint John. Click all photos for larger image. Well, I think I need to have my head examined for not heeding my own advice to pull in the reigns this weekend due to a current questionable snowpack at the higher elevations here in the Tetons. Sometimes though, the lure to try and […]

Chased By The Sun

It seems like Norway and the island of Svalbard are the hot new spots for destination wilderness ski mountaineering right now. As a land with 24-hours of sun, located above the arctic circle, with glaciers, fjords, beaches and steep lines and peaks that few have ever seen…who could ask for more?! I tried to make […]

Broken Thumb, Doc’s Thumb or Ulnar Collateral Couloir

While waiting for the bigger lines in the park to stabilize, I got out recently with Reed Finlay to ski a line on the north side of 25 Short that we have both both been eying for many years. Although 25 Short is a rather tame and low angle powder run, the lines on its […]

Sneaker Couloir Video

Here is a little video I made a while back for the Black Diamond Journal of skiing the Sneaker Couloir in GTNP. It’s nothing special, mainly due to the low light and lack of HD POV camera. This was the last time my POV camera actually worked and I am in the market for a […]

Off The Couch

This has got to be one of the longest trip reports I’ve ever read for 12 hours of skiing.  Luckily, it’s a fantastic read written by Christian Beckwith, who got out for a day of skiing last weekend with one of the Teton’s most talented skiers, Mark Newcomb. A nice descent of the Northwest Couloir […]

Fourth Time Is A Charm

Randosteve negotiates the wave entrance in the Sneaker Couloir. Click all photos for larger image. Sometimes I get obsessed with a ski line, especially one that I haven’t skied before. For the past few weeks, it’s been a line called Sneaker Couloir, which has taken me four tries to ski. The first try, and about […]

Windy Peak 10,696

Over the weekend, I skied Peak 10,696 in Grand Teton National Park with Randokitty. The weather was pretty burly, with wind gusts close to 70mph that day. The skiing was halfway decent, when you could see, and Kitty got blasted by a huge wind gust on her descent.

Randosteve's Backpack: Black Diamond Alias AvaLung

Tune in tomorrow for what’s IN my pack. 😎

Southwest Couloir, Mount Moran

It seems high pressure is in the house in the Tetons lately and here for a long term stay. With a ton of avalanche classes and other skiers making their rounds on the lines close to the parking lots and trailheads, I teamed up with Reed Finlay for an adventure far from everything else. We […]

Thanks For Getting Me Amped!

I’m sitting here fighting a cold, resting, and staring out the window at a beautiful bluebird day. I’m also responding to some emails about Teton approaches, which lead me to revisit this video. Thanks for your emails…they are getting me amped for a park day tomorrow. 🙂

Tired!

After skinning about 30 miles, as well as climbing and skiing Mount Moran over the past two days, I will admit it…I’m tired. More photos to come. The Cathedral group at 6:41 pm last night.
